Service
Built for the China Coast service. An original "Beancaker". The "Newchwang I" and her sister ship "Wenchow I" had no derricks as the cargo was loaded and unloaded manually by Chinese labourers, who frequently were female.
1877. The Newchwang I, made the first Hadj for C.N.Co. when on her maiden voyage from Scotland, she transported returning pilgrims from Jeddah to the Straits.
