A New Monthly Line of Steamers
The fine steel steamer Whampoa from Hongkong, via ports, berthed alongside the Municipal Wharves shortly before 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She reached Cape Moreton at half past 3 o’clock, anchored at the bar at 7 am and shortly afterwards steamed up the river in charge of Pilot Ralston. The fact that the Whampoa which is nearly 300ft in length, was brought up the river most successfully has caused something like a sensation in shipping circles.
