Biography

Sailed with the B.I.S.N Co. obtaining his 2nd. Mate's Certificate of Competency in Sydney in August 1953 and Ist. Mate's Certificate of Competency No. 0820, issued in Sydney in October 1956.

January 25th 1957. Joined CNCo. in Sydney, signing Agreement in Hong Kong on March 22nd. 1957. Employed as 2nd./3rd. Mate on the Taiyuan III, Sinkiang II, and Pakhoi II. Obtained his Masters Certificate of Competency No. 5538 in January 1959.

June 1959. Appointed 1st. Mate on the Soochow III, and Taiyuan III. Being confirmed as substantive 1st. Mate in November 1959.

February 1960. Sailed as 1st. Mate on the Kweichow I, Shansi III, Sinkiang II and Chefoo II.

May 1962. From this date until his departure from CNCo. he sailed as Master. The vessels to which he was appointed were:- Changsha III, Soochow III, Tsingtao, Ninghai II, Kweichow I, Kwangsi I, "Island Chief" ex Chefoo II , Woosung III, Nanchang V and "New Guinea Chief" ex Kwangsi I.

June 1975. Resigned to join the Queensland Pilot Service.
