History

The first of a class of three ships. The other two being the Whangpu. and "[[Wenchow II]]"


1918. Built in the wartime austerity mode.

1924. Extra passenger accommodation added from the Bridge deck aft, by the Shanghai D.& E.Co. as shown in the illustration. The hull was painted a grey colour at one stage.

December 8th.1941. Seized by the Japanese and in 1942 renamed "Reizan Maru".

1944. Sunk during a U.S. air attack in the Yangtse river, raised and repaired.

January 18th.1945. Struck an American mine, in the Yangtse river, and sank. Position 39'11" N, 115'07"E.
